Geology and Watershed Walk
The Westmoreland Land Trust and Turtle Creek Watershed Association invites you to explore the natural beauty of the Otto and Magdalene Ackermann Nature Preserve in North Huntingdon Township on Sunday, April 21, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Our walk through the preserve will take us to a century-old sandstone quarry overlooking Brush Creek Valley. From there, we will hike down to the floodplain of Blue Dell Run, one of Brush Creek’s many high-quality tributaries. We will discuss the geologic history of the preserve and remediation of abandoned mine drainage in the Turtle Creek watershed. Note – this is an intermediate-level woodland hike and requires good trail shoes. Please dress for the weather and bring insect repellent.
